- 1/2 cup red onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup apple, peeled and chopped, I used Gala
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ground pepper
- 4-6 tsp blue cheese
- 1 lb ground turkey
1. Mix together turkey, onion, apple, salt and pepper.
2. Divide mixture into 4 portions.
3. Divide each portion in half.
4. Shape and flatten out 1 half. Put 1 heaping teaspoon of blue cheese in the middle.
5. Shape and flatten the second half and lay on top of first half.
6. Shape the 2 halves and press sides together with your hands into one patty to about 1/2 inch thickness. Repeat this process with the other 3 portion.
7. Drizzle each side of burger with olive oil.
8. Pre-heat grill to med-high.
9. Place on hot grill and close the lid of the grill. Grill for 5 minutes on one side.
10. Flip the burgers, close the lid and grill for 5 minutes on other side or until cooked through.
11. Enjoy!
The inspiration for this burger came from JerseyMom, who wrote in the comment section of my recipe for Red Pepper and Feta Turkey Burgers about how she mixes chopped apples with ground turkey to make a juicy burger. I loved the idea and hopefully you will too. Thanks JerseyMom!

ReplyDeleteI love playing with food and burgers are SO versatile!
Those sound very nice - a great change from "ordinary" burgers!

These sound wonderful! I love blue cheese so very much. :) Love the idea of pairing it with apple- I'll probably go with granny smith just because I love that tart bite. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBrenda - I guess you can't tell by the photo, but we ate the burgers on 'sandwich thins'. I think they might be a fairly new product, but the brand I buy is only 100 calories and does not have hfcs. We like them and they help with our portion control.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the comments!
These look great! I am a HUGE fan of turkey burgers and usually just add some barbecue sauce or something similar, but this sounds divine! I can't get enough of recipes with only a few ingredients, so this will definitely be on my list of things to make. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI've tried to love turkey burgers, I really have. I usually will eat one and then feel slightly unsatisfied. THIS recipe though is a different story. I bet I would LOVE this! Thanks for posting it :)

This sounds good. I love me some blue cheese! Does the apple make it sweet or does the tang of the blue cheese cut that sweetness? I am definitely going to have to try this.
ReplyDeleteLove the ground turkey and apple combo for these. They look great and I'm a big fan of the little multi-grain buns too. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSweet Bee Cottage - I used a gala, which isn't that sweet, but I think the apple balanced the tang of the cheese.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the comments!
