I have stacks by my bedside...
and elsewhere...
It all started back in 1982 when my mother caved to my request for a Young Miss magazine (the back-to-school edition) while in the grocery store check out lane. The check out lane is an evil place for magazine hoarders.
The only thing that has changed in 30 years is that I don't buy magazines in the check out lane any more; I subscribe. Runner's World, Cooking Light, Money, Family Fun, Inc, and so on; you name it, my postman delivers it.
I do read them (they put me to sleep every night), but for some reason I have a hard time parting with them. I could stop subscribing to so many, but the publication companies know me too well. They have me at "FREE gift with your re-subscription."
So, I tackled the magazines. I ripped my address off each one and sent them packing to a magazine exchange at my CSA drop-off. And I'm proud to say that I didn't bring any back home with me.
Do you have piles of magazines around your home? Go tackle it!

Yes, I have a hard time getting rid of magazines too! LOL! I have actually sold some of them on ebay, if you can believe it?!!! Only the Everyday Food (Martha Stewart) magazine is what I had that people were buying. I have also given them away for free the last time I had a garage sale. Thanks for the reminder...I better go "tackle that tough spot"! :D
ReplyDeleteI love Everyday Food. I never thought about selling mags on ebay, however I will probaby just give mine away at our next garage sale too.

My magazines are in the bathroom! I routinely clear out any magazines older than 3 months old. It works for me.
ReplyDeleteKrantcents - my husband keeps magazines in the bathroom too! I had to purge from there as well.

Oh Kristia, I feel your pain. Here's what works for me: I only keep my decorating magazines, and I have a basket for those. The magazines I subscribe to (Atlantic Monthly, Better Homes & Gardens, and Midwest Living) I get rid of the old issue when the new issue comes. It's painful sometimes, but I try to be firm with myself. I also seem to have catalogs that pile up. I only keep one copy of each and the rest I pitch. But you have to say on top of them or they take over!
ReplyDeleteWe used to have a HUGE pile of magazines in our downstairs bathroom. We have since thrown out 75% but it seems like more have piled up. We might have to go for Round 2.
