Although, I don't know if this new found world is such a good thing, because I spend a lot more time on the computer now. Prior to blog life, I went online to check email, shop, look for recipes and do my banking. But honestly I really love this blog world. I have two young children and at that time I really needed an outlet for adult conversation.
Once I started this blog, I soon realized how little I knew about computers, html, SEO, page rank, etc, etc, etc. There was a lot to learn. I also realized that it was going to take some time to get the site running smoothly, to post relative and interesting content, and to attract readers. I struggled with being captivated by the web and my family needing my undivided attention. I had a lot of ideas, but not a lot of time to cultivate them.
Over the summer of 2009. I started to get a rhythm and a direction that was a little different than what I originally intended, but I was finally on some sort of a schedule and I was fitting blogging into my lifestyle a little better.
It is now 2010 and once again I have a lot of ideas for this site and I will probably always struggle with what I want to do and what I need to do, but I will find time to fit this in, because I need the outlet.
My 2010 Goals for Family Balance Sheet
- Clearly define the mission of my blog and update my 'About Me' page. Like I said above, I am on a different direction than what I originally thought, but I like where I am headed.
- Write 3-4 posts a week. I will never be able to write daily, as I just don't know how I will fit that in with my other commitments, but I am now okay with that. Monday will be a money-saving kitchen post. Tuesday thru Thursday, I will post 1-2 articles on money-saving and balance sheet topics. Friday will be my "Odd$ and End$" recap of the week with links to carnivals, my favorite articles and recipes from around the web and any good deals or giveaways I have found.
- Increase my subscribers to 300 by March 31, 2010 and to 600 by June 30, 2010. At that point I will evaluate and make goals for the third and fourth quarters.
- Update my blog with a new look and logo. Right now I am using a blogger template and I really want to change it to be more professional. I'm not sure if I will stay with blogger or go elsewhere. This is where I need YOUR help. Please post in the comments with any advice on hosts and website design that you might have. If you are a reader through a feed, please click into my site to take a look around. I am REALLY interested in what you have to say.
- Venture into social networking, such as twitter and facebook. I am on facebook personally, but I am still an anonymous blogger.
- Develop some 'series' ideas that I have rolling around in my head.
- Have fun. When this stops being FUN, this stops completely!!

That's quite a list of goals you have there! I hope you reach them and are happy with them.
ReplyDeleteMy goal for my blog is just to keep it open. Like you, I struggle with the balance of blogging/computer time and my family and home. I want to be a blessing to others and keep posting things that may help someone in one way or another, but I don't have time to search new blogs and try to atract new readers or followers. I'm happy with the blogs I follow now, and the friends I have met there. I too really need the adult conversations. Homeschooling 4 young children gets...hard sometimes without some windows to the outside world!
I have absolutely no desire to hook up with facebook or twitter. That's only more time away from my family and responsibilities. I want to be plugged into my home, and not social networking at the time. Blogger is all I can handle.
I think you have a great blog. I have blogged for 5 years (from MSN and now Blogger). Readership only grows unless you read and post on other blogs. I never have time but the rewards are still there...connecting with other Mom's is wonderful, keeping your thoughts, goals visually, relaxing (Mom's do need it), it is free and better than therapy and after 5 years of Blogging, it has improved my life greatly. I do Twitter but I just don't get it and is more spam than anything. I keep it to get quick news (like weather, sports health). Facebook has improved my life. I can see what Teens are doing and I recently saw old friends while we were on family vacation. I get fast info from friends but it is a time waster. Best wishes in the year and I look forward to new posts.
ReplyDeleteI found your blog not long ago and do enjoy reading it! I hope you reach your goals!
ReplyDeleteGoals for my blog? Well, I just started it at the end of February as a fun & free hobby. It's just about life in general (focusing on kids, marriage, money, health, and fun). I’m open to suggestions. Let me know what you think of it. =)
